Rosemont / Delafield
I'm going to attempt to describe my weekend, although so much has happened that I'm sure I'll leave something out.
So, on Saturday night, I went to the Annual DC MLK Party (6th Annual) that turns out was actually just part one of a double-house party between the group houses Rosemont (Nina, Sibley, Darcy, Kyle and Val) and Delafield (I don't know anyone there yet - maybe Josh lives there?). Nina MC'd the evening complete with a talent show, cherades, and finally an hour's worth of live 60's and 70's cover-music by the 327Across Band (actually just the Rosemonts but so named after a particularly difficult crossword clue from their wall-sized puzzle).
I contributed to the talent show...twice, actually - the first was my "monkey" voice that I did to help out a friend telling a REALLY bad monkey joke. The second, well, let's just say I'm a partial contortionist. With everyone bringing alchohol, we had an entire table of stuff that we didn't even make a decent dent in, even after everyone was sated. I got home around 1:30.
Sunday began at 5:30 at Van Ness where I met up with Rae and Courtney from MeetIn - we fueled up, got some cruellers and hit the road for New York City. I fell asleep several times in the hot car but as we got closer and closer, my excitement reached a fever pitch. Manhattan, or at least what I saw of it (42nd, 53rd, Broadway and Times Square), was amazing - not at all like what we get from movies and tv. If I had to chose a word to describe it, it would be "chill" and not just because it was cold.
The MoMA was simply incredible. We split up and saw what we wanted, I went first to the Film / Media and Contemporary Art sections where I saw an installation by Warhol. I spent the rest of my time in Paintings where I studied works by Paul Klee and Modrian (my favorite painters). We ate at Cafe Europa which is about 2 blocks away.
We left around 6:30 and got back round 9:30 and I tried to go straight to Delefield to attend the second day of the MLK Party but got very, extremely, hopelessly lost in freaking Petworth along Georgia Avenue. It took me 45 minutes to walk to Howard University, realize it was the wrong direction, and then walk back (but only 30 seconds to realize I shouldn't have been there). Well, the party was indescribable, plenty of drinks and friends from past parties - many visitors from Canada (?) and Connecticut, but I suspect it's becuase all the Rosemonts are Swatties (that is, they went to Swarthmore).
I crashed at Kyle's, helped clean Rosemont and had French Toast. All-in-all a simply, undeniably, once-in-a-lifetime weekend.
Rumor is Rosemont is throwing a "High School Prom" in June - complete with dinner and corny cover band. I love these guys - I think I'm going to see about moving in with them or starting my own group house...
